Some 6,352 Police Caps Delivered Following Last Procurement Exercise

“For the last procurement exercise for police caps, the contract was awarded for 6,352 caps for male police officers for a total cost of Rs 4,996,850.40, on 21 March 2018. All of them have been delivered to the Police Department and are being issued as and when required.”

The Prime Minister, Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, made this statement today, during Prime Minister’s Question Time, at the National Assembly. He indicated that for female Officers, the contract for the procurement of 1,500 units of cap was awarded for a sum of Rs 2,239,050, on 4 October 2021, and the delivery date was 12 December 2021.

He further informed the House that on 9 November 2021, the supplier delivered 92 caps and a sample was sent for testing.  “According to the test report, the caps delivered did not meet the required specifications and the supplier was informed of the non-compliance and they have thus been returned”, said the Prime Minister.

Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth also recalled that the procurement of different items of uniform, including police caps, was based on the annual requirements and on the frequency of issue of same.  He pointed out that there were different types of caps which were issued to police officers based on their ranks, gender and size of head. He stressed that police cap was issued at least once every three years or earlier upon request, following wear and tear, loss, or damage.
