Slowdown In Internet Connection Due To Work On The LION/LION 2 Cable

Must Read

Important works are planned on the part of the submarine cable Lower Indian Ocean Network (LION/LION 2) located in the Nyali lagoon in Kenya, from Monday 10th to Thursday 13th January. This work will be carried out by the international consortium LION/LION 2, which includes operators in several countries, including Mauritius.

It has become urgent and imperative for the consortium to carry out this work in order to prevent the risk of major breakdowns. Indeed, the section of the LION/LION 2 cable, which is located in Kenyan waters, has moved and could suffer serious damage if not addressed. During the operation that starts this Monday, corrective actions will be applied to secure the cable.

During this maneuver, the service of local and international operators members of the consortium LION/LION 2 will be disrupted. There are indeed risks of slowdown in the Internet connection.

Mauritius Telecom, which also uses this cable, has taken measures to mitigate the impact on the service. The company has put in place the necessary arrangements to redirect internet traffic to other submarine cables.
