“If I go out to work and I don’t find my bag, I’ll shoot to trip and I’ll kill you”. This was the threat made by a 27-year-old carpenter to his 20-year-old sister, who is 6 months pregnant, early on Tuesday morning 22 November at Unity, Camp de Masque. This was after beating her all over her body with a stick. Injured, the victim was taken to the Dr Bruno Cheong Hospital in Flacq. However, she left the institution against medical advice. The suspect was arrested and brought before the court in Flacq on Wednesday morning, 23 November. He is being held at the Quartier-Militaire police station.
It was at the Camp de Masque police station that the young woman, six months pregnant, reported a case of premeditated aggression against her brother at around 5:50pm on Tuesday 22 November. She explained that the same day in the morning at around 6:40 am, she received a phone call from her brother. The latter, who lives at the same address, asked her to go out onto the street. The victim says that she went out to wait for her brother and without any reason was grabbed by her clothes and pressed against a wall by her brother.
She was hit several times with the stick in her brother’s hand. She said she called for help, but her brother dragged her a couple of hundred metres away. In a threatening tone, he was to tell her, “Si tanto mo sorti travay mo pa trouv sa bag la, mo pou tir to trip ek to piti mo pou mett dan to lamin”. Injured in the right forearm, left index finger and head, the victim went to Flacq Hospital for treatment.
After she was treated, the doctor on duty suggested that she be admitted to the ward, but she refused. A police investigation was opened into the assault. Her brother was arrested in the early evening of Tuesday 22 November. After his interrogation, he was placed in detention at the Quartier-Militaire police station. This Wednesday morning, 23 November, he was presented before the court of Flacq before being taken back into custody.
