The High Commissioner of the Republic of Seychelles to the Republic of Mauritius, Mr. Claude Sylvestre Anthony Morel, met the Prime Minister, Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, yesterday afternoon at the New Treasury Building in Port-Louis. During this visit, High Commissioner Morel reiterated his support to Mauritius regarding the sovereignty of the Chagos archipelago.
In a statement issued after the meeting, High Commissioner Morel noted that the focus of the talks was on strengthening ties between Seychelles and Mauritius in areas of shared interest on the regional and global fronts, noting that the two nations are connected due to their closeness and geography.
The cooperation includes maritime connectivity, which aims to improve the regional distribution of goods at a reduced cost. Mr. Morel also discussed Mauritius’ bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council in 2025.
He also talked about the upcoming Mauritius-Seychelles Joint Commission, which will be held in the Seychelles in April 2023 and which intends to assess the progress made thus far in terms of the joint administration of the continental shelf and develop a road plan for the following three to four years.
It is to be noted that the High Commissioner of Seychelles presented his credentials, on Monday 06 February 2023, to the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun.
