Seventy-Year-Old Man Dies In House Fire

Farook Nunhuck, 75 years old, did not survive following the fire, which broke out in his house at Napoleon Bonaparte Street in Pitot Valley in the late afternoon of Tuesday, March 14. His body was discovered on the ground next to his bed by elements of the Maurice Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS). The body of this septuagenarian was subsequently transported to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis for an autopsy. The autopsy, performed by Dr. Maxwell Monvoisin, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed his death to asphyxiation due to smoke inhalation. For the moment, the origin of the fire is unknown.

It was shortly after 5 pm that a team of police officers from the police station of Pitôt Valley went to number 23, Napoleon Bonaparte Street, after being alerted of a fire in a house. After containing the flames, the men of the MFRS were to find a body on its back on the floor near a bed in a bedroom. The victim was alone in the house when the fire broke out.

The autopsy was performed at about 8:30 p.m. at the morgue of the Dr. Jeetoo Hospital. An investigation was opened on this case at the level of the police station of Pitot Valley.

The funeral of Farook Nunhuck took place this Wednesday, March 15 at 10 am. He was buried in the cemetery of Riche-Terre.
