Serial Robberies In The North: Suspect Injured And Arrested After A Chase

Based on information regarding the whereabouts of Rivano Pitchen, a homeless man, men from the Divisional Crime Intellingence Unit and the Criminal Investigation Division of Trou aux Biches set up an operation to go to the home of the suspect’s brother at Route Royale, Petite Pointe aux Piments. Rivano Pitchen was seen behind a curtained window. These police officers attempted to apprehend him. But armed with a knife, he managed to flee through the window after threatening them.

Caught in the chase, he jumped on the roof of several houses before finding himself without a yard. At a certain moment he crossed a wall fenced with a metal razor and injured himself all over his body and fell three meters. Bleeding profusely, he still tried to get up and run away. With the help of members of the public he was disarmed and arrested.

He was taken to the northern hospital for treatment before being taken to the CID office for questioning. He confessed to at least two robberies.   In a supermarket on Monday August 22. He had taken a bottle of Red Label whiskey and various consumer items. He left without paying the bill worth Rs 5674. On the images of the surveillance cameras this suspect was seen forcing the padlock of a store in Triolet at about 5:50 am on Tuesday September 13. An hour earlier the same suspect tried to break into a kitchen window before fleeing.

This Saturday morning, September 24, Rivano Pitchen was brought before the Bail and Remand Court (BRC) in Port-Louis. He is facing a provisional charge of theft. This Monday morning, September 26, he will be brought before the court in Pamplemousses again.

Rivano Pitchen was seen behind a curtain. These policemen rushed towards him. He then brandished a knife and threatened them with it before fleeing through a window. This was the beginning of a chase before his arrest.
