Sandeep Moonea will have to appear in Court again on 26 April after the police’s objection to his release on two grounds: firstly, he could interfere with the witness and secondly, he could flee the country. His lawyers, Me. Rama Valayden and Me. Neelkanth Dulloo have filed two motions before Magistrate Nader Ali Caunhye, namely that the interim charge be quashed and that their client be released on bail.
Sandeep Moonea, former employee of Legends Hotel, was cleared in 2012 at the trial. However, he was arrested yesterday by the officers of the Major Crime Investigation Team. The Petit Raffray resident is facing a provisional charge of conspiracy to commit robbery. He is suspected of stealing the key card from Room 1025 of the former Legends Hotel in 2011 where Michaela Harte and her husband, John McAreavey, were staying.
His lawyer, Me. Rama Valayden states that this case is a miscarriage of justice and an injustice to his client, Sandeep Moonea. He insists that there is no new concrete evidence to incriminate his client.
