Salary Compensation: “The Focus Will Be On Those At The Bottom” – Says Dr. Renganaden Padayachy

Must Read

Speaking at the press briefing on Saturday, Dr. Renganaden Padayachy placed particular emphasis on the 2020 and 2021 reviews. Last year, we unfortunately started to face an invisible enemy, which has done a lot of damage, caused deaths and prevented us from living in a normal way.  We are all upset by this virus, nationally, regionally and internationally. We have taken the necessary decisions. The Prime Minister, who once held the position of Minister of Finance, acted quickly on behalf of Mauritians and those who are vulnerable. Hence the importance of the introduction of the Wage Assistance Scheme, and the Self Employed Scheme, in order to avoid mass layoffs,” he said.

Resumption of Covid-19

The Chief Financial Officer, pointed out that there is a resurgence of Covid-19 and said that we are still at war to fight the virus and save the country.

Dr. Renganaden Padayachy called on Mauritians and the Opposition to work together to get out of the crisis. He also added that about 90% of the population has already been vaccinated and pointed out that we have 500,000 doses of vaccines.

In the same vein, the Grand Argentier asked employers to pay the year-end bonus as soon as possible so that their workers can avoid the last minute rush to do their shopping.

He also suggested that as a responsible government, we always work for the people, especially those at the bottom of the ladder. We are a progressive, left-wing government that works to reduce inequality in many areas,” he added.

Wage compensation

Dr Renganaden Padayachy appealed to Mauritians to do their ‘booster dose’, which he said will protect them more against Covid-19.

The Big Money man also made it clear that social development and economic success are based on the political stability of the country.

The Minister of Finance also announced that he will chair the tripartite committee on wage compensation next Thursday. We will put a lot of emphasis on those who are at the bottom of the ladder,” he concluded.
