A close examination of two parcels from South Africa during the day on Thursday March 3 raised the suspicions of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) of the Mauritius Revenue Authority. The two parcels were scanned and then opened. They contained 4 rectangular parcels, which were glued with adhesive tape, in which there was a whitish crystalline material. This turned out to be 660 grams of methamphetamine, whose market value is estimated at Rs 9.9 million.
It is by the flight MK 2852 of Air Mauritius, coming from South Africa that these parcels, intended for a Malagasy and which contained two briefcases of black color, were in transit in Mauritius. These parcels, which aroused the suspicions of the CANS men, were scanned. The package was opened after suspicions that there were suspicious objects in these packages.
The packages and their contents were seized as evidence. The team of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) of the airport has taken over this investigation and intends to seek the help of the anti-drug brigade of Madagascar to verify if the identity of the recipient of this package really exists.
