A police operation mounted by men of the Central Division’s Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (Adsu) with the help of a police helicopter in a forest in Mare aux Vacoas on Tuesday morning, August 23, resulted in the uprooting of one thousand one hundred and fifty-six cannabis plants. The plants measure between twenty and seventy-five centimetres. The value of these plants is estimated at Rs 3,468,000.
It was around 11.45 am that Sergeant Bullywon’s men carried out a search in this dance forest of Mare aux Vacoas, after this plantation was spotted by the police helicopter. These one thousand one hundred and fifty-six cannabis plants were uprooted before being transported to the Adsu headquarters at the Central Barracks. The operation was supervised by the Adsu’s patrol officer, Deputy Police Commissioner Choolun Bhojoo. An investigation was initiated to trace the grower of these plants.
In addition, a raid by Adsu officers from Rose-Hill, led by Inspector Fowdar at the home of a driver’s aide at Flamboyant Residence, Petite-Rivière led to the apprehension of Christopher Abel Luciano Cully, 31, on a provisional charge of drug trafficking for the purpose of distributing synthetic drugs.
It was at around 3pm on Tuesday 23 August, on the basis of certain information and after hours of surveillance, that the Adsu team arrived at the home of Christopher Cully. The latter was found in possession of two pieces of black adhesive tape. On each of them were stuck twenty-five doses of synthetic drugs, i.e. 7.71 grams of the drug.
Christopher Cully was brought before the Bamboo court on Wednesday morning, 24 August, after spending the first night in a police cell. He is facing a provisional charge of drug trafficking and distribution of synthetic drugs. The suspect was returned to the police cell.
