Rotary Club Of Bagatelle Partners With Rotary Club Of Pondicherry Agaram For The Squint Project

A Squint Project, which will offer squint surgeries performed by eminent paediatric ophthalmologists and squint specialists from India, free of charge, to children diagnosed with strabismus, was launched on Thursday at the Subramania Bharati Eye Hospital in Moka. The Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal, was present at the event.

The project is a joint endeavour of the Rotary Club of Bagatelle and the Rotary Club of Pondicherry Agaram, with the support of the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

In a statement, Minister Jagutpal indicated that a screening exercise of some 175 patients has been carried out and that the surgery of some sixty children has successfully been performed.

The Health Minister lauded this initiative which he emphasised is a good opportunity for those children suffering from strabismus to receive the necessary medical treatment free of cost.

Furthermore, he underlined that the foreign doctors performing the surgeries are specialists in the field.

Also present on the occasion, the President of the Rotary Club of Pondicherry Agaram, Mr K. Sowrirajan, stated that upon the request made by the Rotary Club of Bagatelle, necessary arrangements were made at the level of his Club to cater for reputed squint specialists for the project.

As for the President of the Rotary Club of Bagatelle, Mr Amaresh Ramlugan, he informed that the Memorandum of Understanding signed in the context of the project, will span for some more years, which he said, will enable for more surgeries to be performed.
