For almost two years now, the tourism sector has been at a standstill due to the COVID-19 pandemic, preserved for a while, it is only in January 2022 that Rodrigues records its first cases. Today Rodrigues is sounding its tourism revival and its digital revolt.
Since March 04, commercial flights have resumed between Mauritius and Rodrigues and from 02 to 06 next, 27 Rodrigues operators including establishments, restaurants, tour operators and boaters will be in Mauritius to present their products to the general public during the ‘Roadshow in Mauritius’. Let us also note that the traditional troupe ‘Union Tradisyonel de Rodrigues’ as well as Doyal Edouard and Macken Legentil will be part of the trip in order to make discover to the public of Mauritius the music of Rodrigues. A total of 54 people including the Commissioner of Tourism, Mr. Jean Alain Wong So, the president of Discovery Rodrigues Co. Ltd, Mr. Aurèle Anquetil André and the manager of the Tourist Office, Ms. Issana Agathe will also accompany the delegation.
Besides the cultural activities, the highlight of this event is the launch of the mobile application of the Rodrigues Tourism Office. Available on Apple and Android download platforms, this application is an alternative to paper maps of the island but also a more practical tool to discover the Rodriguan destination. The application allows its users to choose its establishment through a tab specially dedicated but also to book car, scooter or cab. Intuitive, the latter will also have the possibility to discover the attractions. To do so, the application allows to see in 360 degrees the most picturesque places of Rodrigues.
The users will also have the possibility to know in advance the different events taking place in Rodrigues such as the Trail of Rodrigues, the Hiking Festival or the Kreol Festival in addition. The launch of this mobile application will take place on Friday 03 June in the presence of the Minister of Tourism, Mr. Steven Obeegadoo at Ravenala Attitude Hotel in Balaclava. The travel agencies of Mauritius which are key partners for the promotion of Rodrigues will also be invited.
Subsequently, from 06 to 12 June the Rodriguan delegation will fly to the island of Reunion where are planned a Rodriguan Tour in St Pierre and St Denis respectively. The goal, to boost the visibility of Rodrigues in Reunion.
