The OPR held a press conference on Wednesday, October 19 as part of the 46th anniversary of the OPR and 20 years of Rodrigues Autonomy.
The minority leader, Franchette Gaspard Pierre Louis said and reminded us that the autonomy is a heritage for our island and it is also the fruit of the 25 years struggle of the OPR, of our elders under the leadership of Louis Serge Claire. She also pointed out that as part of the 20th anniversary of autonomy, there was a special session at the Regional Assembly of Rodrigues where they had the opportunity to share the contribution of the OPR since 1976.
She said that it was sad that the Regional Assembly chose to celebrate this over 20 days, but did not organize anything at the autonomy monument in Malabar. She reminds us that in 2003 this monument was set up to symbolize the 25 march, 25 years of struggle and above all this monument was built with the hands of the Rodriguans and those who fought for this autonomy.
Rose de Lima Edouard in turn, spoke about the celebration of the 46th anniversary of the OPR and 20 years of autonomy. She pointed out that the history of the Autonomy of Rodrigues is directly linked to the history of the OPR, but this autonomy is a gift for all Rodriguans. The OPR will organize an anniversary congress to celebrate the 46 years of the OPR and the 20 years of the Autonomy of Rodrigues on October 30th at the Farm.
