The Commissioner and candidate for the l’Organisation du Peuple de Rodrigues (OPR) at No. 3 could not remain quiet following the police complaint of the candidate, Dianette Manan Henriette of the Alliance Liberation. In a statement on social media, Franchette Gaspard Pierre Louis denies the accusations against her and her party.
It was a clarification to rule out any blame for intimidation and harassment against the candidate, Dianette Manan Henriette of the Alliance Liberation. The latter made a complaint at the Petit Gabriel Police Station on Sunday 06 February against her political rival accusing her of having orchestrated a move, that is, using the local police concerning the limitation of 50 people in public meetings, and for the second time. This was to interrupt her political meeting with her constituents, which “this time was only with about 20 people“. She claims that the OPR was also holding a meeting in No. 3 with about 30 people but that the police did not interrupt that meeting. She claims to be a victim of an “anti-democratic act, I feel harassed and humiliated in front of my constituents as a result of the actions of the police officers“, said the complainant.
In her statement on social networks, OPR candidate, Franchette Gaspard Pierre Louis stated that “no one prevented Alliance Libération from holding its meeting. Neither I nor the OPR has done a meeting in the Constituency because it is difficult to do a meeting with this 50 persons’ limit. We usually get more than 50 persons at each meeting, especially in these times when people are craving for political meetings.” She said that there has been no political meeting in No. 3 since the first case of Covid 19 in Rodrigues and that the party has the full support of its Constituents via the telephone. She advised her rivals “to be honest and not to blame their opposing parties for their weaknesses and failures“.
