Road Accident Claims 84th Victim In Poste De Flacq

A motorcyclist was killed in the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 25, in a traffic accident at Branch Road, La Porte, Providence. Kalachand Beeharry, a 45-year-old butler from La Porte, Providence, did not survive his injuries sustained in a collision with a car. The 54-year-old driver was given a breathalyzer test, which was negative. The Bramsthan resident was taken into custody. On the same day, he was arraigned in Flacq Court on a provisional charge of manslaughter. He was later returned to the police cell. Kalachand Beeharry, also known as Amal, is the 84th victim of the road since the beginning of this year compared to 89 deaths at the same time in 2021.

It was around 1:54 a.m. this Tuesday, October 25, that a team of police officers from the Flacq Police Station responded to this accident scene at Branch Road, La Porte, Providence. A doctor from the Emergency Medical Service, who was called to the scene, was unfortunately only able to note the death of the victim, who was on his way home from work.  His body was then transported to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis. Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis for an autopsy. The autopsy, performed by Dr. Maxwell Monvoisin, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed the cause of death to multiple injuries.

The driver of the car, a food vendor, was released on bail. An investigation has been initiated to determine the exact circumstances of this accident. The driver will have to give his statement to explain the circumstances of this accident.

The funeral of Kalachand Beeharry took place at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25. The cremation took place in Mare La Chaux.
