The Pailles police station was alerted to the accident shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Sunday evening, October 8. A team of police officers led by sergeant Ramcalawon was dispatched to the scene. A car driven by a 65-year-old man was travelling towards Port-Louis in the middle of this section of the Sorèze freeway when the motorcycle whipped into the rear of his vehicle. The impact was so violent that the driver of the motorcycle and his passenger were thrown onto the asphalt.
The two seriously injured passengers were evacuated to Dr Jeetoo Hospital. The rump passenger did not survive his injuries. The driver of the motorcycle, who lives in Vallée Pitot, was unable to take a breathalyzer test because of a mouth injury. A blood sample was taken for analysis at the Forensic Science Laboratory in Réduit. He was admitted to the intensive care unit. The alcotest performed on the driver of the car was negative.
An autopsy performed on Monday morning, October 9, at the Victoria Hospital morgue attributed Kader Dilbar’s cause of death to multiple injuries.
Police found that the motorcycle’s National Land and Transport Authority declaration sticker had expired. The driver of the car was allowed to return home on the orders of Superintendent of Police Shyam Bansoodeb after giving his version of events. He is not facing any charges in the case.
