Recounting Exercise For Constituency No. 19 Started This Morning

Must Read

The recounting exercise for constituency no. 19 has begun early this morning. It is understood that only the ballots that had been declared valid will be taken into account for the exercise. In all, there must be 28,169 valid ballots, most of which will be divided into bundles of 100. 18 wards will have 1,400 ballots, one ward will have 1,500 and the last will have 1,496. While there were supposed to be 28,169 ballots, the officers counted only 28,096 before the start of the exercise so 73 valid ballots are missing.

In total, 80 political agents were allowed access to the college.

The two principals involved, Ivan Collendavelloo and Jenny Adebiro, in a brief statement to the press, maintained that they were serene. The proclamation of the results will take place later today at the school of Our Lady of Hope in Rose Hill.

Pravind Jugnauth: “It’s crazy to say we rigged the election”

The Prime Minister was participating in a wreath-laying ceremony at the foot of Morne Mountain this morning. This was part of the commemoration of the 187th anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery. In a statement to the press, he explained that he is calm about the recount exercise. “I cannot predict what will happen. The court has ordered a recount. Let’s wait and see the results. I am calm in the sense that as a party and an alliance, we have done everything right within the law. But the allegations that we rigged the elections are far-fetched and despicable,” he said.
