Ramgoolam’s Election Petition Case Adjourned To Next Thursday

Must Read

Decision taken by Senior Puisne Judge Nirmala Devat and Judge Patrick Kam Sing due to an error found in one of the clauses of Navin Ramgoolam’s election petition. The representatives of the former Prime Minister have until this Thursday to make the necessary corrections. Navin Ramgoolam is calling for the invalidation of the results in No. 10. He mentions a series of irregularities in his petition, including the fact that a person would have voted by impersonating a deceased. Hence his demand for the invalidation of the results in no 10 or, at worst, a recount.

It will be recalled that in a previous interlocutory judgment rendered on March 25, Senior Puisne Judge Nirmala Devat and Justice Patrick Kam Sing had granted the request of the representative of the Electoral Commission and the Returning Officer, Ms. Sulakshna Beeharry, Assistant Solicitor General, that the names of the co-defendants in this case, i.e., the other defeated candidates (two from the National Alliance and three from the MMM), be removed from the petition.
