Press Conference (Review 2022): Restructuring Of The Paris 2024 Committee

Must Read

The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Stephan Toussaint held a press conference yesterday in Côte d’Or.

Among the major announcements was the restructuring of the Paris 2024 Committee next January, the revamping of all youth centers that will be known as youth hubs.

Moreover, he reassured that the Ministry will continue to support elite athletes both financially and in their physical training, through the High-Performance Centre at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex. He also dwelt on Projet Paris 2024; the State Recognition Allowance; the Trust Fund for Excellence in Sports; free swimming classes at Blue Bay, Belle Mare, Mont Choisy and Flic-en-Flac; and investment in several Training Centres for various disciplines such as athletics, football, basketball, judo and badminton, among others.

Before concluding, the Sports Minister reminded that the Jeux de la Francophonie, the African Games and the Indian Ocean Island Games will be held next year and see the participation of Mauritian athletes. He also seized this opportunity to encourage the public at large to come in numbers to the CJSOI Games, for which access is free of charge, so as to encourage the youth.

Mauritius Football Association withdraws from the organization of the 12th edition of the CJSOI Games

Following the decision of the Mauritius Football Association to withdraw from the organization of the 12th edition of the CJSOI Games, the Organizing Committee of the Games (COJ) has taken corrective measures for the smooth running of the futsal competition.

Thus, in consultation with the Technical and Sports Commission of the YOC, referees and officials from the participating countries will be requested for all futsal matches during the tournament.

In the meantime, the referees of Reunion Island have verbally informed the COJ that they have been banned by the Ligue Réunionnaise de Football to officiate the matches of the competition. They added that it was the MFA that influenced the decision of the Ligue Réunionnaise de Football.

The COJ deplores this way of doing the MFA which tried to take hostage the young footballers of the Indian Ocean. But the sporting values have prevailed over this demagogy of the MFA and the tournament could fortunately start this Monday, December 5, and this with the collaboration of officials of participating countries.
