Pointe Aux Sables: A Missing Woman Found In A State Of Decomposition

A macabre discovery was made this Thursday afternoon of May 12 at Avenue des Rosiers in Terrasson, Pointe aux Sables. The body in an advanced state of decomposition of Marie Joëlle Martine Fino, 43 years old, tied up in a net, was found in the one-room house of her companion. The woman, who lived in L’Agrément, Saint-Pierre, was reported missing on Tuesday, February 01. Her companion, Yannick Marie Sheldon, a drug addict with a bad temper, is strongly suspected of being the author of this act. He has been serving a prison sentence since Tuesday, May 10 for non-payment of a fine.

Following a request, a team of police officers from the La Tour Koenig police station went to Avenue des Rosiers at around 4:45 pm on Thursday, May 12. Marie Joëlle Martine Fino, who had been living there for six months with Yannick Sheldon, was found tied up in a net. Her body was in an advanced state of decomposition.

The police machinery was immediately set in motion. The scene was secured before men from the Metropolitan Police’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the South Division, the Special Supporting Unit and the Special Mobile Force arrived at the crime scene. Forensic technicians were also dispatched to the scene to collect as much evidence as possible to further the investigation.

Following the instructions given by Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, the head of the forensic department of the police, the body of the victim was transported to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis to be autopsied in the evening of Thursday, May 12 at 9 pm.
