The inhabitants of Paul Toureau St Croix, Résidence La Cure, and Vallée des Prêtres are now benefitting from open gym facilities to practice regular sports activities.
The open gyms were inaugurated, yesterday, by the Minister of Energy and Public Utilities, Mr Georges Pierre Lesjongard, in presence of Members of the Parliament, Mrs Subhasnee Luchmun-Roy and Mrs Marie Joanne Sabrina Tour, and the Lord Mayor of the Municipal City Council of Port-Louis, Mr Moussa Cader Saïb.
In a statement, Minister Lesjongard said that this initiative is in line with Government’s commitment to encourage Mauritians, in particular the youth, to practice sports, promote a sporting culture and cater for their overall well-being.
He underscored Government’s determination to sensitise every citizen to make the most of the various sports infrastructures and other facilities being put in place around the island. Government is doing its best to bring about such facilities in different localities around the island in a bid to ensure the well-being of the population while enhancing their quality of life, he added.
As for the Lord Mayor, he said that open gyms and embellishment works are being carried out in the different regions of Port-Louis in a bid to provide the citizens with sports facilities closer to their residence. He further highlighted that they will be able to practice sports at any time.
