Nurse Dies In Road Accident

Deviantee Ramdoss, a 45-year-old nurse, born Budaloo, also known as Vishwanee, was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Jawaharlall Nehru Hospital in Rose-Belle on Tuesday, September 6. She succumbed to her injuries on Saturday afternoon, September 10. She was seriously injured when the car her husband was driving left the Riche-en-Eau road and hit a tree head-on. Her son, a 17-year-old teenager, who was also in the car, was injured. The autopsy attributed the cause of death of the nurse to septic shock.

It was around 2.45pm on Tuesday 6 September when the family, who live in St-Hubert, were returning home. The Ramdoss family had just returned from their son’s Award Ceremony at the Royal College in Curepipe. The blue Toyota driven by her 51-year-old husband was travelling along Astroea Road, Riche-en-Eau when it suddenly left the road and collided head-on with a Termelia tree.

The impact was of rare violence. The three occupants of the car were extricated by volunteers before being transported to Rose-Belle hospital. Vishwanee Ramdoss, a nurse at Mahébourg Hospital, was seriously injured and admitted to the intensive care unit. Her son and husband were able to return home after receiving treatment.

Her husband, aged 51, was given an alcohol test, which was negative. The 40-year-old woman breathed her last at about 2.49 pm on Saturday, September 10. Dr Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, head of the forensic department of the police, attributed the death to septic shock.

The funeral of the nurse was held in the afternoon of Sunday 11 September. An investigation has been launched at the Hundred Gaulettes police station to ascertain the exact circumstances of the accident.
