The lack of a pathway along the bridge, according to Minister Balgobin, created a potential risk to pedestrians and indicated structural deterioration. In order to build the new bridge, which is 28 meters long, 12 meters wide, and four meters high across a distance of 200 meters, in accordance with international standards, it was essential to demolish the current bridge, which is around 14 meters long, 6 meters wide, and three meters high.

For his part, Minister Maudhoo expressed his gratitude to road users and the inhabitants of the region for their patience during the eight months of works. The soft launch, he underlined, will relieve the inhabitants of the traffic issues caused due to the closure of the bridge adding that official launch of the bridge will be done very soon.
