North Korea’s Latest Makes 2022 A Year With The Record Number Of Missile Launches

Must Read

North Korea has launched three short range ballistic missiles in the direction of the sea to the east of the Korean peninsula, states South Korea’s military.

This latest bombardment has come five days after North Korea used drones into South Korea’s airspace for the first time since 2017.

North Korea has fired greater number of missiles this year than any year before.

The United States said the latest missile launches are not an immediate threat for it or its allies.

The three short-range ballistic missiles were fired from around 08:00 local time (23:00 GMT) from North Hwanghae Province, south of the capital Pyongyang, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

“North Korea’s ballistic missile(s) launch is a grave provocation that undermines peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula as well as the international community,” they added.

The South Korean military further said that the missiles passed around about 350 km (217 miles).

Japan’s coastguard said sometime before that one missile had fallen into the sea.

South Korea’s military this week expressed regret for being unsuccessful in shooting down five drones sent by North Korea across their mutual border.

In this regard, they fired warning shots and sent jets and attacked helicopters to shoot down the aircraft, one of which flew close to the capital.

Early this month, the US and its Asian allies put restrictions on three senior North Korean officials linked with the country’s recent missile tests.

Connection between North and South Korea have worsened since South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol’s conservative government took office in May, determined to take a tougher stance towards North Korea.

North Korea has become more authoritative under Kim Jong-un who has guided much of the latest development of its weapons programme.

He recently proclaimed his nation to be an “irreversible” nuclear state and stated he wants it to have the most potent nuclear force in the world.
