Must Read

Elements of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Bel Air Rivière Sèche arrested Anooj Jaggarnath, a 32-year-old police officer from the village of Bel Air Rivière Sèche, this Friday, January 27. This man, assigned to the National Coast Guard (NCG) of Two Brothers, is accused of rape by a nurse working in one of the regional hospitals of the country with whom he had an extramarital relationship for almost two years. After being questioned, the officer was released on parole, but he will have to appear before the Bail and Remand Court (BRC) in Port Louis this Saturday morning, January 28. The nurse alleges that the non-consensual sex caused her to miscarry.

The 38-year-old nurse, who lives in a village in the east of the country, went to the CCID office in the Central Barracks to report a case of rape against this police officer. In her complaint, she gave the history of her encounter with this policeman whom she met on Facebook in January 2021. A month later, the policeman Anooj Jaggarnath had come to meet her at her home.

This policeman, she said, came to visit her several times afterwards and they had sexual relations with her consent. Following this intimate relationship, in December 2022, she became pregnant. On Friday, January 13, they met in Bel Air Rivière Sèche before going to her home with this police officer. Shortly after informing her lover of her pregnancy, he had forced sex with her without her consent in her room.

The nurse explained that this sex was rough and that she felt pain. On Tuesday, January 17, she was at home when this police officer showed up and she had been sexually abused again. She says she had bleeding, which caused a miscarriage. On January 18, she confided in her brother and sister-in-law about her condition. On Thursday, January 19, she was admitted to the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis and after receiving treatment, she was discharged the same day.

In the afternoon of Thursday, January 26, the file of her statement was transferred to a police station in the East, including the locality where the victim lives. She is scheduled to be examined by a forensic doctor this Saturday, January 28. This Friday, January 27, police officer Anooj Jaggarnath was arrested and was released on parole after questioning. This Saturday morning, January 28, he will have to appear before the BRC before being released on bail. On Monday, January 30, he will have to be brought before the court of Flacq for the procedures of his release on parole.
