Nalini Gopaul : In The Name Of Rust

Must Read

An accomplished artist. That’s Nalini Gopaul – senior lecturer at the MGI. With more than thirty group exhibitions under her belt, the artist, fascinated by rusty metal surfaces, is working on her first solo show.

Modelling the material according to her imagination. This is how Nalini lives her passion for sculpture.

This Montagne-Longue resident caught the art bug early on: “At primary school we were once asked to make a model. After the submission, the teachers liked my work. That was the trigger.

When she grew up, Nalini applied herself wholeheartedly to her art studies: “I studied art in secondary school and then in tertiary school. After that I went to India to get a Master’s degree in Fine Arts.”

After several years of practice, the artist developed a real passion for sculpture: “I like to play with the material, especially with sheet metal and rusty metal. This material tells a story by itself.

With more than 30 exhibitions to his credit, the artist is planning to exhibit solo: “I am still looking for a subject. But everything suggests that it will be about cultural heritage. It is a theme that is often found in my creations.
