Munish Maton, 27 years old and resident of Medine Camp de Masque lost his life on the evening of Sunday 18 September. The motorbike he was riding, a black Suzuki, collided head-on with a parked car on the Royal Road in Riche-Fond. An ambulance from the Emergency Medical Service (Samu) was called to the scene. Unfortunately, the doctor on board was only able to confirm his death.

The accident occurred at around 9.50 pm on the evening of Sunday 18 September. The motorbike driven by Munish Maton in the direction of Quartier-Militaire collided head-on with the rear of a grey Suzuki car parked on Route Royale in Riche-Fond. The disabled Suzuki was parked on the left side of the road just behind a white Toyota. The driver of the Toyota, a 31-year-old woman from New France, got out of the car to help the driver of the Suzuki, a 45-year-old man from New Grove, start his vehicle. The driver sustained a minor knee injury. All three vehicles were damaged.

The team of police officers from Masque Pavé Camp Police Station led by Sergeant Kauroo who arrived at the scene of the accident found that the area was not lit. Both drivers were given a breathalyser test which was negative. The driver of the Suzuki was brought before the court in Flacq on Monday morning 19 September. He is facing a provisional charge of manslaughter. He was later released on bail.

Munish Maton’s body was taken to the mortuary of the Dr A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port Louis for an autopsy. The autopsy is being carried out by Dr Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, who attributed the death to multiple injuries. This location is not covered by surveillance cameras.
