The road claimed yet another victim on Sunday evening, November 13, on the Triolet Bypass. This brings to 90 the number of deaths on our roads. This accident involved two motorcycles, including a 17 year old, and a car. Parmesh Seepatee, a 25-year-old driver’s helper and resident of Triolet, did not survive his injuries.

It was at about 10:45 p.m. on the evening of Sunday, November 13, that a team of police officers, led by Sergeant Ramgoolam, went to the Bypass Road in Triolet after receiving a request regarding a road accident. A van driven by a 35-year-old travel agent at Rogers Aviation, a resident of Trou aux Biches, was involved in a road accident with two motorcycles. One of them, a blue Suzuki, and the other one, a yellow Haojue, was driven by Parmesh Seepatee.

When the police arrived at the scene of the accident, the identity of the Suzuki rider was not known, as he had already been taken to hospital by volunteers. Shortly afterwards, these police officers were to learn that it was a 17-year-old teenager and resident of the locality. The latter, whose injuries are considered rather serious, was admitted to the ward. The personnel of an ambulance of the Emergency Medical Service did not delay to arrive on the spot. Unfortunately, the doctor on board was to pronounce Parmesh Seepatee dead at 11:10 p.m. on Sunday evening, November 13. His body was then transported to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis for an autopsy. The autopsy, performed by Dr. Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer this morning, November 14, attributed the death to multiple injuries.

The driver of the van and the 17 year old were given a breathalyzer test, which was negative. After being interviewed, the van driver was allowed to return home on Sunday evening, November 13. This Monday, November 14, he was presented before the court of Pamplemousses on a provisional charge of manslaughter. He was then released on bail.

The police of Triolet have initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of this accident.
