Government is digitalising public healthcare services as part of the e-Health project to cater to the changing needs of the health sector and ensure the wellbeing of the population. In this context, the Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal, proceeded with the launch of a digitalised system for x-ray services, today, at the Dr AG Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis.

In a statement, Minister Jagutpal indicated that the health sector is gradually making a transition to a technologically based medical service by advocating the use of sustainable and innovative technologies.

The modernisation of healthcare services, he stated, has kick-started during the COVID-19 pandemic with the availability of digitalised results of PCR tests and in the Methadone section to keep records of patients.

As regards the system, he pointed out that it will enable the online transfer of x-rays through a local area network to Consultation rooms and Orthopaedic unit and will be replicated in other units at a later stage. The x-rays will henceforth be available in soft version, he said, adding that the system will help to eliminate bulks of x-rays in the hospital.

Minister Jagutpal highlighted that the digital x-ray system will be made available in the five regional hospitals in the future. He also spoke of the need for the healthcare staff to be well-versed with the new trends in medical infrastructure and equipment so that they are able to provide efficient service delivery to the patients.
