Milad-Un-Nabi Eid Celebrated Sunday

Eid Milad-Un-Nabi, known as Yaum-un-Nabi, was celebrated this Sunday, October 9, by Mauritians of Muslim faith. A festival that marks the birth of the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad. An event celebrated every year on the 12th of Rabi’ al-awwal; the 12th day of the third month of the Islamic calendar. “Eid Milad Unn Nabi means a special event,” as explained by the Iman, Arshad Joomun.

And as usual, the national celebrations were held at Aleemiah College, with the presence of Maulana, Anas Noorani Siddiqui.

The ceremony was presided over by Anas Joonas. After stories and songs, the Maulana, Mohammad Anas Siddiqui, focused on the life of Prophet Muhammad.

The guests of honor were the Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth, the President of the Republic, Prithiviraj Roopun, Anwar Husnoo, the Mayor of Vacoas/Phoenix, Pravin Kumar Ramburn. Also present were Minister Alan Ganoo, MP Gilbert Bablee, Ministers Leela Devi Dookun-Lutchoomun and Fazila Daureeawoo, the Indian High Commissioner to Mauritius, Kottapally Nandini Singla. Members of the Opposition were also present at the ceremony.
