In an honest interview, Mickey Rourke declared his dislike towards the star of the latest Top Gun: Maverick, Tom Cruise, by tagging him as “irrelevant”. The former boxer turned film star contested that the star of the film had no respect for the comeback of his role as CAPT Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in the sequel of his film, Top Gun. The interview scheduled as a video chat on Piers Morgan Uncensored where Tom’s fellow actor, Mickey Rourke, expressed, “That doesn’t mean sh*t to me.”
Mickey exclaimed, “the guy’s been doing the same effing part for 35 years. I got no respect for that. I don’t care about money and power.” The actor continued, “I care about when I watch Al Pacino work and Chris Walken and De Niro’s early work and Richard Harris’s work Ray Winstone’s work. That’s the kind of actor I want to be like. Monty Clift and Brando back in the day.”
Mickey stated, “I think he’s irrelevant, in my world”, when asked his opinion on whether Tom is a “good actor” by the host of the show. Piers replied with, “fascinating”, on hearing this.
At the premieres of the film, Tom made an appearance at many events which also marked a celebration of his 60th birthday. He was spotted at Adele’s concert and the British Grand Prix in London. He also was a part of an intimate dinner with Serena Williams and Natalie Portman.
As noted by Forbes, Tom was paid $12.5 million for making the film and will further receive over 10% of the first dollar of the movie’s distributor, Paramount, takes after the theatre’s cut, calculating to around 50%.
Top Gun: Maverick was released on May 27 and rightfully paved its way up to the top of the box office chart. Along with Tom’s reprisal as CAPT Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, the other actors starring in the film are Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Val Kilmer, Ed Harris and many more.
