Mauritius To Reopen Borders From July 15 – All You Need To Know

The reopening of the air borders of Mauritius for tourists coming from abroad is scheduled for the 15th of July 2021. This eventuality has been discussed between the official of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) and the ministry of Tourism. Two main conditions will be imposed on tourists coming from abroad: (I) they must be vaccinated against the Covid-19 and (ii) they must undergo a quarantine period of 14 days in their hotels so that they can be allowed to visit the country everywhere. The reopening of the Mauritian frontier so that tourists can come to visit the country is a subject that is high on the agenda of proprietors of hotels, restaurants, taxi operators, fishermen, pleasure craft owners being given that their economic situation is in a bad shape. It is probably by the end of this month that a list of approved hotels to start their operations will be available.

For Mauritian people who wish to go abroad, they must be vaccinated against the Covid-19. They will undergo a PCR test from five to seven days before they get the green light to take plane. As for tourists, they will have to undergo a PCR test at the SSR International airport. It is after they sept or 14 days after a negative result for Covid-19, that they will be allowed de leave their hotels pour visit Mauritius, said the minister of Finance, Renganaden Padayachy in the budget 2021-2022, “Mauritius will be opened to all vaccinated visitors for resort tourism. A tourist will be allowed to leave the hotel after 14 days with a negative PCR test; and (b) As from the 1st of October 2021, subject to preconditions being met, all vaccinated tourists with a negative PCR test will be allowed on the Mauritian territory without any restrictions. He said that this sector is aiming at 650,000 tourists over the next twelve months”, said the minister of Finance.

To this end, a total amount of Rs 420 million is being allocated to the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) for the: (a) Promotion and destination marketing in France, Reunion, UK, Germany, Italy, South Africa and China; (b) Organization of cultural tourism events locally and internationally; (c) E-promotion through e-marketing, online events and virtual road shows; and (d) Joint Marketing with tour operators and airline companies; amongst others. 23 126. The EDB will set up a special desk aiming to attract at least 50,000 foreign retirees in Mauritius during the next financial year, through a targeted marketing campaign in collaboration with MTPA.
