Mauritian Marie Perrier beat her own national marathon record on Sunday in Valencia, Spain, with a time of 2 hours 26 minutes and 19 seconds. As a result, she has achieved the minimum qualifying time for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Valencia is Marie Perrier’s playground. A month after beating the national half-marathon record of 1h11’13 in the streets of the Spanish city, she did it again, this time beating the national marathon record in the same venue.
Yesterday at the Valencia marathon, Marie Perrier was credited with a time of 2h26’19, which is also synonymous with Olympic qualification for the marathon.
Last April, Marie Perrier ran a time of 2h29’45 in the Rotterdam marathon. It was the first time she had run under the 2h30 mark.
Following on from Ajay Chuttoo, who qualified for the marathon at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Maurice will once again be running this legendary distance at the Olympics.
