The lawyer of Dominique Seedeeal, alias Darren the Activist, was this Wednesday arrested by the police for Breach of ICTA Act. He is accused of having posted a photo of a policeman after the arrest of his client. He accused the policeman, whose name and address he also gave in his post, of having brutalized his client. He is accused by the police of having offered a bounty to know the identity of this police officer. Feeling threatened, the police officer in question filed a complaint against the lawyer.
Me Akil Bissessur was taken to the Central Barracks. He will be joined by Me Rama Valayden who will defend him. Another of his lawyer, Mr. Shakeel Mohamed, had stated to the press that Mr. Akil Bissessur “used social networks to call for witnesses”. For Rama Valayden, it is “clear that other lawyers will be arrested in order to muzzle them. He announced that a habeas corpus motion will be filed in the Supreme Court on Thursday to challenge the detention of the lawyer.
