Hollywood actress Kirstie Alley, famously known for her role in the comedy series Cheers, has died at the age of 71, said her family.
The actress died of cancer, according to a family statement.
Alley had “zest and passion for life”
“We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away,” her children wrote. Her family said that her cancer was “only recently discovered”.
The statement continued, “She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead. As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”
The family respected her “zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating”.
The family also said that she as accompanied by loved ones at the Moffit Cancer Center in Florida in her final time.
Hailing from Wichita, Kansas, she also starred in the films Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Drop Dead Gorgeous, and the Look Who’s Talking series.
John Travolta pays tribute
John Travolta, her co-star in the Look Who’s Talking series, paid her respects by expressing himself on Instagram.
“Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had. I love you Kirstie,” the caption read. He also posted a picture of her.
“I know we will see each other again.”
The NBC sitcom, which ran through 1980s, was about a Boston bar that saw Kirstie Alley playing Rebecca Howe opposite actor Ted Danson.
She made appearance in 147 episodes and entered the show at its most popular stage and starred in it until its climax in 1993.
The same year she had won a second Emmy for best lead actress but for a CBS TV movie named David’s Mother.
Later in her life, Alley claimed she was “blackballed” by Hollywood as she expressed conservative views for Donald Trump and supported him.
