King Charles Gets His First Portrait Done Featuring An Indigenous Bracelet From Amazon

Must Read

Since taking the crown in Britain last September, King Charles’ first portrait has been made public. Artist Alistair Barford completed the oil picture in just two weeks. The monarch did not officially sit for the portrait before it was created. For inspiration on the portrait, Alistair Barford decided to observe the King at a reception at Buckingham Palace last month, according to Daily Express UK.

The portrait is unofficial but first commissioned one to be made public since Charles became King. It shows King Charles in a blue suit, underneath which is a white shirt with a pink tie, putting one of his hands inside his jacket pocket.

The reception was organized in support of biodiversity throughout the world. The portrait of King Charles was then completed by the artist using drawings and photos from the occasion.

Alistair Barford said, “I wished to capture his warmth and sensitivity, the empathy which came across in his interactions with the people he met. It was important that I captured a sympathetic expression.”

The bracelet that King Charles received that evening from the head of the Amazonian native people, Domingo Peas, is also depicted in the portrait. Under the watch worn by King Charles, on his left wrist, is that bracelet that is darkly coloured with gold thread.

The Illustrated Coronation Edition’s front cover will display the new image of the monarch. “It’s a great responsibility to create a portrait of someone who means so much to so many people,” Alistair Barford said, calling the process of doing so a “terrifying honor.” “If you are painting someone you know, you bring to the portrait certain preconceptions. While I don’t know The King, he has been an enduring presence in all our lives,” he added.

“So reconciling this ‘Idea of The King’ with the reference material I had gathered was a challenge,” he further added.
