Japanese Delegation Meets Prime Minister Jugnauth

A delegation of technical experts from Japan, currently in Mauritius to provide support in regard to the project of the upgrading of the coastal radar surveillance, met the Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Home Affairs and External Communications, Minister for Rodrigues, Outer Islands and Territorial Integrity, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, this afternoon, in Port-Louis.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan, Mr Shuichiro Kawaguchi, was also present on the occasion.

In a statement after the meeting, Mr Shuichiro Kawaguchi underlined that the delegation comprised technical experts in the field of maritime safety and blue economy. He indicated that they were aiding Mauritius to replace the old system of the coastal radar surveillance and help upgrade it. “They are on visit in Mauritius to determine the specifications of the new one to be installed,” he added.

Mr Kawaguchi recalled that Japan was collaborating with Mauritius in various fields, including maritime safety and blue economy, which he stressed, were two important sectors for the country.

Moreover, the Japanese Ambassador said that topics of discussions with the Prime Minister focused on the project to help support the local community of fishermen as well as on the way to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the future.
