The Janmashtami Celebration marks the birth of Krishna and is celebrated across India and in Mauritius. On this special day, believers visit the temple, observe fasting, sings hymns, wears clean clothes after an early bath, pray by facing the east or north direction. Families come together for a feast and to complete their celebration, there is the breaking of the Dahi Handi.

In India, the festival is celebrated in order to keep Krishna teachings alive in people consciousness. The Iskcon temple, dedicated to Krishna, is known for its outstanding Mahabharata light shows, Bhagavad Gita, and mesmerizing Art Gallery. This temple is known as the international Krishna consciousness Association established for devotees and tourists providing peace.

The Janmashtami is usually celebrated in the month of August or September which symbolizes the Krishna Paksha as the month of Shravan or Bhadrapad. So, Krishna puja takes place in the midnight including the 16 steps involved from the Sodashopachara puja Vidhi.

The ritualistic puja is considered as the most powerful incarnation of Vishnu. The reason why Krishna birth is so special and is celebrated with much dedication by believers hold behind an amazing history. On his birth which took place in Mathura, at that time his parents were imprisoned. Thus, he was exposed to the thread of his life. He was shifted to his foster parents in Gokul.
