The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, will probably meet with Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, next month in Uzbekistan. As The News reports, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Secretary-General Zhang Ming visited Pakistan on Friday for three days and has asked the Pakistan Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif to be a part of the SCO annual summit that will be organized in Samarkand, Uzbekistan on September 15-16.
Since the Indian Prime Minister will be attending SCO annual summit, it will give the opportunity for both the nations’ leaders to meet each other face-to-face. The News further informs this summit will mark the meeting of the two Prime Ministers under one roof after two years.
There has been no scheduled meeting for the two national leaders yet, but since they would be in the same compound for two days, if any chance of a meeting would take place, it would not be ignored. A highly-placed source shared with The News, “no structured meeting of the two has been tied up since India hasn’t requested the same yet, in case such a request is made, Pakistan’s response will be positive.”
The other members who will be attending the summit, besides India and Pakistan, are China, Russia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. The new members of this summit have drafted their prerogatives and duties. These priorities involve ensuring peace and stability in the region, raising the potential and authority of the organization, ensuring food security and reduction of poverty.
Apart from these arrangements, the other preferential matters that will be discussed include the elimination of trade barriers, incorporating of technical norms and digitizing custom procedures. The SCO annual summit will focus on the development of intra-regional trade.
