India: Tent City In Kashi For Tourists

Must Read

A temporary ‘Tent City’ on the sandy bed of river Ganga on the opposite side of the ghats in the Indian city of Varanasi is likely to come up after the end of flood season in October, when tourist load sees sudden surge in the Holy City.

“The ‘Tent City’ will enable tourists to enjoy the beauty of the mythological Kashi ghats both during day and night. While it is aimed at reducing the load on hotels, which are go in for dynamic pricing due to increased footfall of pilgrims and tourists after Kashi Vishwanath Dhams opened in December 2021, it will also add attraction for the locals by giving them an opportunity to get feel of the Rann Utsav of Kutch and Konark Tent City,” divisional commissioner Deepak Agrawal said on Wednesday.

Regarding the proposal of the ‘Tent City’, VDA vice-chairperson Isha Duhan said, “Expression of interest (EOI) has been invited from the companies engaged in this field by May 15. After it, further formalities will be followed.”
