The Labour parliamentary leader has lodged a constitutional plaint to contest his suspension. This morning, Arvin Boolell faced the press. For him, what happened, that is the interim order to freeze his suspension, is a strong signal sent by the judiciary. Dr Arvin Boolell said that the judge warned against bullying and intimidation and urged the Speaker to let the opposition do its job. Sooroojdev Phokeer, according to him, must ponder over this ruling. He insists that he is confident that the ruling will set a precedent. Arvin Boolell stated: “The former chairman of the Sugar Investment Trust, Rajesh Ramnarain, must tell the whole truth to the Anti-Corruption Commission (Icac)” in the investigation into allegations of bribery involving a minister and a PPS (Parliamentary Private Secretary) to facilitate the granting of a lease of land in the Grand-Bassin area.
Arvind who is asking why the minister whose name has been mentioned in this investigation has not been questioned so far, also makes a call for transparency in the enquiry.
