The second round of the match between Cartel Boss and Marauding will be over 1365m on Saturday. Beaten by Marauding in the Lightning Cup (990m – G2), Cartel Boss will want to take revenge.
Cartel Boss’ winning streak was cut short when he took second place in the Lightning Cup. He won his first four races in Mauritius and he was the horse to beat in the Lightning Cup. This race was launched on high bases by Henry Tudor and Color My Fate and Cartel Boss was forced to follow in third position before coming to the finish.
Cartel Boss did very well despite unfavorable circumstances, and he will be a hard bone for his opponents. He will compete in the 1365m for the first time, but he seems to be able to handle the distance having won the 1200m in South Africa.
Marauding is back to his best. He finished strongly to beat Cartel Boss last time. The 1450m record holder in Mauritius will be more comfortable on 1365m. Marauding will once again be ridden by Swapneel Rama. A jockey with whom he won three races at the Champ-de-Mars. His opponents will have to be very strong to repel the final assault of Marauding this Saturday.
Trainer Ramapatee Gujadhur will also rely on Valyrian King. This gelding secured third place in a Group 2 race for his first race in Mauritius. Valyrian King is a good front runner who won his four times from start to finish over 1000m in South Africa. He got on a little slow off the start in the Lightning Cup and he had a hard race. He fought back well to finish 0.95L behind Marauding. Valyrian King is in better physical condition. He has shown great progress in training, and he will be a big danger.
Dutch Alley showed some nice progress on his last outing when he ran with his tongue tied for the first time. He raced in front, and he was caught only 50m from goal to take third place 0.25L from the winner over 1365m. Dutch Alley can upset the odds with his lightweight and the 2020 champion jockey, Dinesh Sooful, in the saddle.
