The Maryse Justin Memorial Cup, Group 1 event over 1400m, will be contested this Sunday. Double classic winner, Frosted Gold, will be back on the track. He will be hard to beat at weight-for-age.
The grey gelding will be looking for his fourth win in a Group 1 race after his victories in The Princess Margaret Cup (1400m- G1) and The Duke Of York Cup (1600m – G1) in 2021, and in The Barbe Cup (1600m – G1) in 2022. Frosted Gold last win was most impressive. He finished strongly in the final straight beating his opponents easily. He is at his peak form. Frosted Gold will be ridden by South-African jockey Bernard Fayd’herbe and he will be a very hard nut to crack in this small field of only four runners and with all carrying the same weight of 59 kg.
Alyaasaat is the one who can try to push him to his limits. The Rameshwar Gujadhur-trained horse is back to his best. He won his last race, and he showed a good form in training. His jockey Jameer Allyhosain could make an ‘early move’ to have the first run over Frosted Gold. He was unlucky last year in the Gold Cup when he had some traffic problems. This might not be the case with the small field on Sunday.
Triple Fate Line is back to competition after its success in the second round of the “Sprint Series” over 1365m. His trainer Shyam Hurchund seemed to have targeted this race and Triple Fate Line will be a danger.
Colour My Fate was disappointing over 990m in the Lightning Cup. He will try to win this race from pillar to post. He has the advantage to be the only front runner. But he will have to be at his best to beat his rivals. It is worth remembering that Amar Sewdyal’s horse was beaten easily by Frosted Gold in an handicap race at the start of the season.
