Frosted Gold is aiming for a second win in a classic race. He will have a tough task against classy horses who will try everything to win the Faishon Heights Barbé Cup, a group 1 race over 1600m, on Saturday at the Champ-de-Mars racecourse.
Frosted Gold is the favorite in this second big race of the year in Mauritius. He won three in a row, including two in Group 1 races, namely The Princess Margaret Cup (1400m) and the Coupe d’Or (1600m). Frosted Gold made a winning return to competition this season. He at his best and his jockey, Rai Joorawon has a golden opportunity to complete the Grand Slam of classic races as he already won The Duchess Of York Cup, The Maiden Cup and The Duke Of York Cup.
Royal Wulff will be the main danger. Trained by Ramapatee Gujadhur, he won The Duchess Of York Cup over 1400m on his debut. He was beaten on his second outing, but he was not well ridden. He will be very dangerous with the Brazilian jockey José de Souza in the saddle. Ramapatee Gujadhur will also rely on Black Cat Back who won the Gold Cup in 2020. He made comeback over 1600m and he will be a very good outsider. Twist Of Fate will also be a strong contender. Winner of The Duchess Of York Cup in 2020, he has always been present there finishing in the money in the other classic races. He is a classy sort. He is in great shape and he will have a good chance with the 2020 champion jockey, Dinesh Sooful in the saddle. Alyaasaat who is only an outsider this time. This strong finisher has all the abilities to beat his any of his opponents. He has vastly improved in recent weeks, and he can upset the odds. Having a big chance with Frosted Gold, the 2021 champion trainer, Ricky Maingard will also line up two excellent horses, Alshibaa and Undercover Agent. Alshibaa ran only four races in 2021 with three win including a rare double in the Maiden Cup (2400m – G1). He had made his comeback in the Barbé Cup last year finishing third. He is an excellent competitor who will be right there. Undercover Agent won this race from pillar to post in 2021. He has run twice this season without winning. He is in better physical condition and remains a danger.

Horse Dreamforest, number 1 of Race 1 for Race Meeting 13 on Saturday 6 August 2022, has been scratched at 8.00 am this Friday 5 August 2022 by the Racing Stewards of the Horse Racing Division, acting on veterinary advice. Dreamforest is lame near fore and has a swollen knee. As per the rules for fixed odds betting, all monies placed on Dreamforest are cancelled and refunded, and betting is to be reopened. For the tote, the bets on Dreamforest will be refunded after the official results for Race 1 on Saturday 6 August 2022, except for all other types of bets where it is stipulated that it is replaced by the Tote favourite.
