A 23 year old painter was arrested this Thursday, August 11 by a team of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Pamplemousses for committing an electronic fraud. He committed this crime to the detriment of his mother, 47 years old, who works as a planter in a government school. This resident of Montagne-Longue, who is a drug addict, took the bank card of his mother who lives at the same address to make several withdrawals totaling the sum of Rs 264,700. He spent this money at the casino and obtained drugs.
The 40-year-old woman gave a statement at the Montagne-Longue police station on August 8, after being informed by the State Bank of Mauritius (SBM) branch in this village that several withdrawals had been made from her account. A first withdrawal was made at the SBM counter in Montagne-Longue on 01 June 2022 for an amount of Rs 2,500 and the last withdrawal was made at the counter of the Jumbo hypermarket in Riche-Terre on 3 August for an amount of Rs 1,200.
The 40-year-old woman told the police that she did not authorize anyone to use her bank card and that she never used it either. She said she suspects her son to be the person who used her card. During the day of Thursday, August 11, the men of Sergeant Imambux of the CID of Pamplemousses, under the supervision of Inspector Ramburrun, proceeded to the arrest of the son of this woman based on certain information. The suspect, who was subjected to interrogation, did not delay his guilt in these terms, “mo mem mo finn tir tou sa larzan la, a plisir repriz ek monn fini tou dan casino. Mo dakormo finn fer ene erer…”
The young man was taken into custody at the Red Earth Police Station. This Friday morning, August 12, he was brought before the court of Pamplemousses before being returned to his cell. The police objected to his being released on bail.
