Stephan Toussaint, 29, also known as Steward, did not survive his assault with a sword, which took place this Friday morning in Cite EDC, Carolina. The victim was taken by his sister to the Dr. Bruno Cheong Hospital in Flacq where he was pronounced dead. His friend, Natraj Seenunun, 21 years old and resident of Caroline, was injured and had to undergo surgery before being admitted to the ward. Imteaz Deedar, alias Touty, a 40-year-old cabinet maker, the alleged assailant of the two men, was arrested. This resident of Cauhnye, Carolina confessed and stated that he took revenge against the victim, who had sexually assaulted him along with two others on the evening of Thursday, December 29, 2022.
It is Sergeant Joysury of the police station of Bel Air Rivière Sèche, who took a statement shortly before 14 hours to relate this case on behalf of Marie Diana Annabelle Carosin, née Toussaint, the sister of Stephan Toussaint, who is 35 years old. The thirty-year-old explained that around 7:00 am on Friday, January 20, she took her brother, Stephan Toussaint and his friend, Natraj Seenunun to the hospital in Flacq. They had been attacked with a knife by a man named Touty, and both had injuries to their legs.
In the emergency department, Stephan Toussait was pronounced dead by Dr. Eathally. As for Natraj Seenunun, he was admitted to the ward after undergoing surgery and his condition is considered not serious.
At around 12:05 pm on the same day, Imteaz Deedar was apprehended by a team of police officers from the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU), led by Sergeant Seewoochursing, under the supervision of Inspector Seebnauth. The suspect soon confessed. The police recovered the sword he used to assault the two men. The suspect was subsequently placed in a cell at the Moka detention center. This Saturday morning, January 21, he was presented before the Bail and Remand Court in Port-Louis. He is facing a provisional charge of murder.
In the investigative community, there is talk of a score-settling that would be the cause of this bloody attack. Imteaz Deedar has not yet given a statement. They are waiting for Natraj Seenunun’s recovery to take his statement as well. According to information available to investigators, on the evening of December 29, 2022, Imteaz Deedar was at EDC City, Caroline to buy drugs. While under the influence, he was accosted by the victim and two others, and they sexually abused him.
Imteaz Deedar would have tried to denounce his aggressors and since, he swore to take revenge on these three persons. This Friday morning, January 20, he went to the Cité EDC, Caroline in search of Stephan Toussaint. The latter was beaten with a sword when he was found by Imteaz Deedar. Natraj Seenundun, a friend of Stephan Toussaint, was injured when he tried to intervene between the two men. Stephan Toussaint and Imteaz Deedar, who are drug addicts, are on file at the Bel Air Rivière Sèche police station as notorious repeat offenders.
The autopsy of Stephan Toussaint took place in the early evening of Friday, January 20, at the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis, and was performed by Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, head of the forensic department of the police. He attributed the death of Stephan Toussaint to exsanguination as a result of a laceration to the left femoral artery.
The funeral of Stephan Toussaint took place this Saturday, January 21 at 2 pm. After the funeral ceremony at the church of Saint Esprit in Bel Air Rivière Sèche, he was buried at the cemetery of Trois îlots in Olivia.
