Grounding Of FV YU FENG: Acting PM Chairs Third National Crisis Management Committee Meeting

The third meeting of the National Crisis Management Committee on the grounding of Taiwanese fishing vessel FV YU FENG no 67 on the reefs near Saint Brandon Island, was held yesterday under the chairmanship of the Acting Prime Minister, Minister of Housing and Land Use Planning, Minister of Tourism, Mr Louis Steven Obeegadoo, at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis.

It is recalled that the Taiwanese fishing vessel ran aground around ten days ago and was abandoned by its crew.

The meeting chaired by the Acting Prime Minister therefore aimed at assessing the current situation and decide on the necessary actions that need to be implemented so as to mitigate any possible damage caused to the marine ecosystem.

The Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Local Government and Disaster Risk Management, Dr Mohammad Anwar Husnoo; the Minister of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change, Mr Kavydass Ramano; the Attorney General, Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Mr Maneesh Gobin; the Minister of Blue Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping, Mr Sudheer Maudhoo; and other personalities, participated in the meeting.

Representatives from other government departments and institutions including the Mauritius Police Force, National Coast Guard, and Mauritius Meteorological Services, also attended the meeting.

The National Crisis Management Committee will meet again tomorrow to decide on the way forward.
