The 80th Golden Globe Awards are back in the new year, 2023, after NBC did not air it due to scandal related to ethnicities and diversity which affected the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in 2022. However, the awards, recognizing films and television across the globe, was back with a bang on Tuesday. The Banshees of Inisherin was nominated the most in eight categories and won the best film award
American comedian Jerrod Carmichael hosted the night and mentioned the HFPA’s lack of diversity in his opening monologue. He said, “I’m here because I’m Black,” referring to last year’s scandal. The awards this year have many highlights and one special among them being “a special message of peace” as described by actor Sean Penn from Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
