Arriving in Mauritius for vacations since Thursday, January 12, a 32-year-old French lawyer had to go to the police station of Blue-Bay to report a case of theft, which he was victim of on the public beach of Blue-Bay during the day of Sunday, January 15. He was robbed of his backpack, which contained various items, money and documents. The whole worth of 2500 euros, or about Rs 117 500.
The vacations of this lawyer, who was supposed to leave the country on Wednesday, January 25th, were thus spoiled. For this sunny Sunday of January 15, he left the village of Mahébourg where he put his bags to go to the public beach of Blue-Bay to spend a day. It is between 11:00 and 11:30 that his backpack, which contained 2 Iphones, 3 packs of cigarettes, the key of his rental house, a key for a rental car, a sum of Rs 2500 euros, his driver’s license and two bank cards were stolen. He said he did not see the person who stole his bag. The value of this theft is estimated at 2500 euros (Rs 117 500) and Rs 2500.
In addition, another tourist from Reunion Island was also robbed on the same beach of Blue-Bay between 09:30 and 10:30 on Sunday, January 15. The victim is a 51 years old driver, staying in a boarding house in Blue-Bay, was robbed of his backpack in which there was his wallet. This one contained 40 euros, Rs 4000, 2 bank cards, his driving license and his work permit as well as a pair of sunglasses, a pair of glasses, a hat and a t-shirt. In another bag, there were some clothes.
He estimates the value of the stolen items at Rs 210 euros (Rs 9870) and a sum of Rs 4000. The driver had arrived in Mauritius on Tuesday, January 10 and was due to return to Reunion Island on Tuesday, January 17.
The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Southern Division has opened an investigation to trace the perpetrator of this theft. They suspect that the same person committed both thefts.
