Franklin Case: Khalil Ramoly Has Been Arrested

Businessman Khalil Ramoly went to the Icac this Tuesday. He was wanted since a few days. He was accompanied by his lawyers, Mr Raouf Gulbul and Mr Rishi Hurdoyal.

Khalil Ramoly arrived at Icac shortly before 3pm on Tuesday. After being questioned by investigators in link with Franklin case, he was informed that he is under arrest.

The businessman is the owner of a garage and a shop selling spare parts in Port Louis. He is also the proprietor of a fleet of vehicles that he rents.

He is allegedly involved in the Franklin case. He is suspected of having helped launder money.

As a reminder, Khalil Ramoly was arrested in 2021. He was accused of having rented a car to a prison guard who, in return, granted certain facilities to the drug trafficker Siddick Islam, who was then detained in the high security prison of Melrose.

Franklin remains in detention

Jean Hubert Celerine, AKA Franklin, appeared once again before the Bambous District court this Tuesday morning. He is provisionally charged with money laundering. The police objected to his release on bail and Franklin was remanded in police custody until 28 March. The Black River resident was arrested on 7 February by ICAC officers. His motion for release on parole will be debated on 13 April. Franklin is being defended by Mr Yatin Varma and Mr Alexandre Leblanc.
